2010 PRISON PUPS AND PALS class sessions are complete! Four Companies came together to make this Shelter Pet Adoption Project and Inmate Career Training Initiative come alive! Shown are the Founding Members of Prison Pups and Pals. L to R: TCI Warden Steven Wellhausen, Allyn Weigel, Prison Pups and Pals Founder and Member of the AKC CLUB, West Volusia Kennel Club, TCI Assistant Warden Angela Gordon, Programs and Gloria Thomas, Executive Director, West Volusia Humane Society. Absent: Pat Hawk, WVHS Board Member and Karen K Clark, President, WE Help Animals (photographer).
The dogs that completed the seven week course have obtained the AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificate. The West Volusia Humane Society adoption fee is still only $80.US (eighty dollars) Adoption forms may be obtained by calling the shelter M-F, 11 A.M. - 4 P.M. and Saturdays from noon until 4 P.M. 386-734-2450. There are three remaining dogs from 2010.
The program in 2010 was supported solely by 501 (c) (3) IRS Tax Deductible donations through the West Volusia Humane Society. NO taxpayer $$$ used.
Allyn Weigel has worked on the formation of a project like this for a long time. West Volusia Kennel Club supports this project and supplies the trainers. They instruct the Inmates on proper training procedures to eventually become "Trainers" and ‘Kennel care” instructors themselves! Thank you West Volusia Kennel Club and Allyn Weigel
